The Humans

Where do humans live

Humans reside exclusively in Iveria, specifically the two cities of Tiador and Everton. Tiador has a population of about 50 thousand while Everton only has around 2 thousand. The Absence help keep the population down and prevent it from growing too quickly or too high.

What's the technology like?

Phones and PCs do exist. Their internet is called SolarNet. They also have a dark web called NecroNet. They do have electricity. Their power lines are mostly underground. Everton has its own powerlines and so does Tiador.

The general population don't have cars. Everton mostly relies on walking or bicycles. It's similar in Tiador, but they also have streetcars. The streetcars run on blessings granted by Aethyr. They come every 5 minutes.

Hospitals, firefighters and the military have cars, jeeps, ambulances and firetrucks. These vehicles used to run on gasoline but Eve got pissed because of environmental damage. As a result of Aethyr's blessings, everything in Iveria is environmentally friendly.

Is there crime?

Yes. All crimes that exist in our world also exists in Iveria. I won't talk about most of these crimes in detail, other than murder, abuse and human experimentation. I also won't be going into much detail about Iveria's legal system unless necessary.

Can humans use magic?

Generally no unless they're using tokens. In some special cases, the Petalyths can grant them temporary powers but human bodies are not built to handle magic. For extended periods of time, it can cause irreversible damage and the Petalyths only do this as a last resort. The effects appear as The Withering. An exception to this is the blessing humans need to access Eden.

What are tokens?

Tokens are small objects that contain a part of a Petalyth's magic. The token serves as a medium to prevent any adverse effects on the humans using them. Tokens can run out of power after a specific period of time and must be recharged by the spirit who issued it. An example is the blessing humans need in order to access Eden

Difference between magic and tokens

Humans and most living beings in general (except for plants) were not made to handle magic directly in a safe manner. Magic came directly from the Gods and Serenym. Human (along with most creatures) souls are simply much too fragile in comparison. Plants are immune as they have no soul. The plants usually just end up glowing and never withering. Plants also continuously bloom even when they aren't supposed to.

Tokens serve as a medium that allows humans to channel magic safely. It limits power flow and absorbs excess magic. Think of it as a lightning rod with magic as the lightning! Any extra magic is simply transferred to the Petalyth who issued the token.
