The Absence

The Absence of Light

A poison that plagues the otherwise beautiful land of Iveria. Also known as The Blight, Absences are monsters born from shadow and sin. They are manifestations of fear and despair, attacking anyone that stumbles upon their path. For there to be light, there must be shadow. For there to be good, there must be evil. Their purpose to maintain balance. This is why they will never fully cease to exist.

Absences take on the vague, shadowy form of monsters and beasts. Their bodies are made of ash and disappears immediately after being killed. They have no blood, organs or skeletons.

Absences are predominately nocturnal but can show up during the day in heavily shaded areas, such as caves and tunnels. They rely on the darkness and shadows to ambush unsuspecting prey. There's a reason no one comes out at night, for the Absence will hunt down and devour them. Towns used to have a barrier created by Serenym for protection but those barriers have since fallen. Now, the places are heavily lit to keep the Absence at bay.

They can appear anywhere, but the darker the region, the larger they get. They can only be killed by Petalyths or Gods, but can be chased away temporarily with fire and bright lights.
